Final_SEL SIG Newsletter_Fall_2011
The newsletter article is a variation of Anna Kearney’s action research article posted on this website on 10/16, describing results of a Self Science intervention in her third grade classroom.
We are so pleased and honored to see it receiving broad distribution to researchers around the world through the SEL SIG at AERA.
AERA is the most prominent international professional organization, with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application. Its more than 25,000 members are educators; administrators; directors of research; persons working with testing or evaluation in federal, state and local agencies; counselors; evaluators; graduate students; and behavioral scientists.
The annual meeting of AERA will take place this year in Vancouver, British Columbia. This will be a dynamic and beautiful setting for our SEL SIG’s outstanding presentations exploring cutting edge research and practice in social emotional learning and emotional intelligence.
AERA comprises many divisions and special interest groups. Many of us involved in social emotional learning are naturally partial to to SEL SIG. Only four years old and with over 200 members, we are one of the most dynamic and exciting SIGs with the mission of examining the relationships among social-emotional competencies and academic, health, and citizenship outcomes; and the impact of SEL interventions on the adjustment, behavior, and academic performance of children and adolescents.
I hope you will consider joining the SIG and being part of our gathering in Vancouver, BC this April 13-17, 2012.

So heartening to read yet again, about research and findings on the positive impact of Self Science in classrooms. About time Educationists across the world woke up to the importance, benefits and urgency of assisting our children to understand, learn and apply SEL skills and competencies. The only way to begin is by learning ourselves. At Six Seconds, we are committed to assisting you in this journey. Towards a brighter, healthier and happier community :0)
