EQ Matters in Schools
A study involving more than 200 school-based social and emotional learning programs (270,000 K-12 students) has found that Social and Emotional learning programs lead to a boost in student skills. Where programs focus on recognizing and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, setting and achieving positive goals, making responsible decisions and constructively handling interpersonal situations, the following outcomes were recorded.
- More caring attitudes
- Positive social behaviors
- Declines in disruptive behavior
- Less emotional distress
This research showed that the results were effective for students of all ages and ethnic groups. More powerful results were noted in those programs that followed recommended practices for training school personnel to promote these skills in students!!!

I believe that emotional ways is the most powerful method of teaching .when I try hard to teach anything the result is nothing you can be proud of but when Icare about students emotional feelings when I put them in the centre of my concern I get more satisfied than I wish
I find that teaching with EQ is truly powerful, as you’ve said, and has the most impact and potential for change and growth. It’s when emotion and reason, heart and mind, are combined that true learning occurs. I like your expression–putting the students’ emotional feelings at the center of your concern and then seeing the gratifying results. Thanks for writing!
